I was driving the Versa when the brake pedal completely fell to the floor without any resistance whatsoever. I didn’t do any hard braking beforehand. Anyone know why it did this?

Hydraulic system failure, I’d guess either the master cylinder, a wheel cylinder, or a line blew out. Time for a tow truck.

The Honda dealer was asking too much for a Fit. Sorry.

Did you check the fluid level in the master cylinder?

How old is the brake fluid? Brake fluid is hydrophilic and since water is slightly compressible, it causes issues if you get it into the system.

I don’t know. The car is 3 years old though.

Not yet. I’m confused because the car didn’t exhibit this issue after that one time.

MSRP for a 2013 Fit that was about to be replaced is outrageous.

This is the US spec car. It’s built in Mexico.

Air in the system? You could try to get the dealer to check the brake fluid. Usually there can be little pockets of air that can cause that.

Also speaking of Versa’s build quality I found once that the air recirculation trim piece was on the floor I asked my mom why and she said it just “fell out”. Other than that they are great little cars (so far).

What year is your Versa? I’m assuming it has original brake fluid from the factory, yes?

Probably an air bubble or moisture that got into the lines. Maybe not a bad idea to get the brake fluid drained and replaced.

Spooky indeed. I think it’s a sign to ditch the Versa.

Probably, it’s a 2014.

I’ll see when it goes in for service.

On the topic of build quality, the first time I opened up the hood, I found a loose piece of foam by the hinge. Had to force it back into place.

Stuck caliper. Drive for a while at speed, like on the highway, the constant friction boils the brake fluid. Hit the pedal and it drops to the floor.

Probably a rear caliper if you haven’t noticed it pulling to one side or causing any vibrations in the steering wheel. Just a guess there though.
